The major storms which approach Florida historically follow a similar path as they journey toward the state. This image only depicts prior storms with a track closely resembling Irma's path per Weather Underground.

The moon and sun pass one another close in the sky once a month, regardless whether the two are aligned to cast a shadow upon the Earth. Some try to invoke the alignment as a causal event in triggering earthquakes, when a maximum gravitational tidal tug is exerted.

Are you suggesting the shadow alone affects a hurricane?
