The primary danger of living there is radiation.

That's probably true, but what about its non-breathable atmosphere? I guess that's why sci-fi writers usually put its earthling inhabitants under domed cities.

Everything on Mars is a danger, but radiation is probably the hardest to do anything about. Most likely everyone would have to live underground, and what’s the fun in that?
