Who in the hell would spend 150 thousand on an education to get a job that pays 28 thousand a year??? My goodness she could manage a fast food joint and the starting pay is 35 thousand a year no higher education needed, just work hard for a couple of years and BAM if you are worth anything at all they will promote you!!! She's an adjunct, which means that she's getting paid market rate, as opposed to the politically fixed royalty rate that is paid to the tenured profs. As an adjunct, she is almost certainly doing real, full-time teaching and is likelier to be teaching a recognizable, traditional course. The purpose of adjuncts is to relieve tenured faculty of teaching obligations so they can concentrate full-time on whatever rings their chimes, which for many does not translate into useful work.
Sounds like she is filling in when needed to cover classes, doesn’t sound like she is full-time. My ex sister-in-law did that for several years, but she did it after she retired from being a full-time professor. My SIL owns two homes, that she bought on her own nothing to do with her marriage to my brother which ended decades ago. There has to be more to this story, the woman should have a better job than she does.
The dirty secret at many universities is that a lot of the teaching is done by “adjuncts”. Not tenure track and paid very little. Cannon fodder.
