I love, love, love chicken fried steak & always ask for an extra side of gravy for dipping. We have a place in town that makes delicious ones.

I do, too, and ought to make it, did once and didn't like my version, too oily. I can buy tenderized round or similar, flour, egg and bread crumbs. Then fry in my combo of butter and margarine or Crisco, my oil gets stale fast because I don't use much.

The white gravy is a cinch because that's how I make my fried chicken gravy and the way my mom did, and everybody loves it.

I don't get out to eat and I'm sure there a few places where they are good. I really like good restaurant ones because I think they deep fry them, and the grease gets "seasoned" if they don't use it past the icky stage.

So I eat frozen dinners. Haven't tried Boston Market yet and didn't care much for Hungry Man. So I buy humble old 10 for $10 Banquet ones. Can just see you recoiling in shock. Hungry Man does have 2 chicken fried chicken patties with white gravy which I liked and they used to seem better but I won't buy any more except the last-mentioned of those even though they are pretty cheap at Walmart.

At home my mom cooked minute steaks and stirred half and half in the drippings (frond lol). And she cooked round steak she pounded with a ballpeen (sp?) hammer and dredged in flour, then browned on both sides in probably butter and Crisco (her go to, said the butter helped with browning and flavor). Then she would simmer them in water, not too much, covered on top of the stove (I switched to oven for that part). It was always so good.

Potatoes and gravy are my fav. I finally cobbled together a KFC knockoff with Better than Boullion that wasn't too bad and by the time I got it on instant Betty Crocker mashed potatoes, I ate a bunch of it. Too little B than B and no flavor; too much and the salt in that stuff is terrible. I used part beef and part chicken and thickened with a flour slurry because cornstarch breaks down if saved for leftovers.

Yada, yada, yada. I never have sense enough to quit.
