MSNBC’s Katy Tur reviewed President Trump‘s latest speech on Charlottesville, and she raised questions about the authenticity of the president’s scripted condemnation for the events of the last two days.
Tur spoke with David Jolly, Harold Ford, and Marc Morial, the latter of whom compared how long it took for Trump to condemn white supremacists and Ken Frazier. Jolly followed up by saying that even though Trump said everything properly today, his condemnation of white supremacists would’ve meant a lot more if it happened in his immediate response to the chaos, and without a script to read off of.
From there, Tur continued to explore how Trump read his speech off a teleprompter despite the fact that he railed against them throughout the 2016 election.
“This is a man who railed against the use of teleprompter repeatedly on the campaign trail,” Tur observed. “I found it notably that he had to read pretty carefully, these scripted words, and that this was not something he could speak extemporaneously about, that he could speak from the heart about.”
From there, Ford said that Trump will eventually face moments where he’ll need to call for national unity, and he’ll have to do it with greater compassion and spontaneity than he has expressed so far.
That says a lot about her common sense, judgment & perception of the world around her.
