The constitutional convention of 1787 was originally supposed to revise the Articles of Confederation. Instead, they scrapped the Articles of Confederation and completely changed our federal governmental structure.

While the outcome was beneficial, I would not really want to see a constitutional convention in this day and age. Key freedoms we take for granted, such as our freedom of speech, could be done away with, because liberals today want to surpress speech which offends liberals sensibilities.

Could our 2nd amendment rights survive a liberal onslaught at a convention?

Could our 1st amendment freedoms relating to religion survive? Could the liberals rewrite the clause relating to religion, to specify that the federal government can surpress religious faith? Maybe it sounds implausible, but, who knows what would happen at a constitutional convention with today’s liberals deciding to do away with constitutional provisions which they don’t like???

The delegates to the Constitutional Convention knew in advance there would be at least a major rewrite of the Articles of Confederation. The AOC were hastily put together while a war was being waged and those that drafted the AOC knew it was not the final say.

The state legislators slotted to attend a convention of states are just as orderly and principled, actually more principled than the current lot that is in Congress today. The state delegates will never allow a free-for-all convention; not going to happen.

The left has a lot to fear from a state convention. They are doomed. Americans are fed up with them. They have power in their urban ghettos but conservatives hold power in states. That’s the essence of republicanism and it scares the crap out o the left, deservedly so.

Dilbert ...

Any proposed changes ... ANY changes ... requires the approval of three-quarters of the States to ratify.

They can suggest a rewrite of the First Amendment, abolition of the Second and turning the Third into something modern, but unless they get 3/4 of the States to agree, it ain’t happenin.

The scariest possibility is that the most ignorant warm bodies that vote without a functioning brain will treat the Bill of Rights as old routine legislation, subject to repeal!
Both electorate and elected criminals!
