What are some safe, affordable hotels in the Fresno/Clovis area. We will be staying 19-20 August. What should be avoided? Thanks

I’ll have to avoid the Motel 6 in Elk Grove. I also heard from a reliable source that the one in Beaver, Utah should be avoided. But I had a pleasant stay in the Studio 6, a related chain, in Mentor, Ohio.

Avoid any place in California. This place is hell on earth. Massive homeless problem. Even affluent areas have them now. They are all on drugs too. Watch out for the druken illegal alien drivers too. It is very dangerous onbthe roads here. Also whites are hated here. You will experience racism from those of the latino persuasion.

Not true at all in north-eastern California where I live. Quiet, peaceful and crime free here.

“Fresno/Clovis” is a pretty big area...narrow it down a bit? That said, Clovis has less crime in general. The BW “Clovis Cole” in downtown Clovis is nice (walk to the quaint downtown Clovis area). The HI Express on Shaw is good too. On the more “economical” side there is “America’s Best Value Inn” near Clovis & Shaw (N. on Clovis). Downtown Clovis Friday Night Farmer’s Market if you are arriving Friday night.

Don't know about hotels, but the Schoolhouse Restaurant in Sanger (15 miles east of Fresno) is worth a visit. Great food. My son and I stopped there on the way to Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks last summer.

That’s complete and utter nonsense here on the San Fran Peninsula. Gorgeous country, nice towns, friendly people and very safe.

In general stay North of Shaw Avenue if staying in Fresno (avoid the “Motel Drive” area near Roeding Park)...no real “bad” hotels in Clovis. I use http://www.TripAdvisor.com for hotel reviews and http://www.bedbugreports.com for any bedbug reports.

My family is from the central valley of California. Since leaving the area, i have stayed in hotels all over the US and parts of Europe, New Zealand and Australia. A few years ago, i returned to Fresno and stayed on the west side, just over the 99, was shocked to see the hotel surrounded by barbed wire fencing to keep thief's and vandals out. Only in Belfast over my travels have i ever seen barbed wire around a hotel, understandable with the northern Ireland troubles, but Fresno ca , USA? Admittedly, i never been to a third world country so not sure whats normal in third world cultures that now predominately make up the west side of Fresno California... all i know is i cant believe what has happened there and how in general the state of CA has become compared to the rest of the developed world...

Don’t know about the current pricing but I always used The Piccadilly Inn. Not even sure it’s still open

Stay in one of the newer hotels in the Riverpark area of Fresno. Cleanest and safest part of town with best restaurants, shopping, highway access. Stay at the Hampton or Marriot or one of several others. Stay away from Shaw or downtown Fresno or anything off highway 99. The airport Piccadilly and Holiday Inn are okay.

I once had the pleasure to stay at a brand new Motel 6, and it was as nice as any place I’ve ever stayed.

Check for bedbugs, wherever you stay. Place your luggage in the tub or shower or on a table when you first get to the room. Take a small flashlight, lift the sheets and mattress at the head of the bed, look for tiny black spots in the seams of the mattress, check the back of the headboard for tiny brown/black spots.

Sorry for the negativity, but I’m battling fleas right now and somehow ended up recently watching Youtube videos about bedbugs. I’ll never be quite the same.

Near Dakota and Marks Avenue is not a very nice area of Fresno. Even if the hotel is nice the area is not.
