In watching these battle scenes, it occurred to me the debt of gratitude that is owed Mel Gibson for raising the bar and establishing the standard for how these types of battle scenes should be filmed. The Braveheart influence is unmistakeable.
But I agree with the Emmy-worthiness for this scene, with a special shout out to oft-overlooked sound engineers, whose contributions were as important to the emotional impact of this scene as the photography.
Also, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. The "We are so totally f***ed" look of dread on Jaime Lannister's faces cathartic.
Braveheart? Maybe
