I found it so so... the reality is Dunkirk was a massive undertaking and I found the movie just felt small compared to the reality of the real Dunkirk
you see me half dozen aircraft four or five ships three to four thousand men it just felt tight small and on a budget
when they pan back and you see Big Empty beaches ...not beaches crowded with men on into infinity (we’re talking four hundred thousand men plus men on that Beach + Equipment)
seeing modern buildings in some of the shots in the background...
it’s not up to the standards of a Saving Private Ryan or a Band of Brothers letb alone at Tora Tora Tora or the Longest Day that always gave the scale of the a fuel for the scale of the undertaking and also a fuel for being in the proper time frame
a grand historical event really does need kind of a grand sweeping movie ....dunkirk’s the movie is not it... it felt cheap
It was basically like “Enemy at the Gates”. You weren’t going to learn everything there was to know about the Battle of Stalingrad based on it, it was just about one small piece of it, the Sniper duel.
