The main reason we bought an Amazon Echo Dot was because we had gone through several "high-quality" AM/FM radios in the past several years and each one of them had lousy reception. We live in a townhouse and could not get beyond the awful static.

We hooked up the Echo Dot to a little Bose speaker and, voila, it plays our favorite stations over the internet. I'm not a purist on the sound quality ... I just want to hear some talk radio shows.

We don't get too involved with the Echo, other than using as a radio, a timer, and a shopping list keeper.
