A former Georgia teacher who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting her student appeared to blame the teenage victim in court for roping her in like a used car salesman, PEOPLE confirms.
Therese Gunn, 54, confessed Friday to having a sexual relationship with a student who was 17, Karen West, Managing District Attorney at the Gwinnett County District Attorneys Office, tells PEOPLE. The ex-orchestra teacher apologized for her actions before telling a judge the teen had coerced her.
He was like a used car salesman, Gunn said.
Gunn was sentenced to 90 days in prison and up to 10 years of probation, West says.
She taught at South Gwinnett High School for 25 years before she was arrested in May 2016, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The victims mother alerted authorities after reading her sons journal, which highlighted the sexual encounters that occurred for several months at the school, a park and the teachers home, the Gwinnett County Police Department said in a statement.
Gunn had turned herself in to authorities and later resigned from her teaching position.
Speaking in court, the victim said Gunn made [his] adolescence hell.

She just made this thread hell.
Not all guys.
17 year olds can be incredibly manipulative; we have been around a lot of them over the years. This homely woman likely was not the recipient of much if any male attention. She also does not look like she is the sharpest tool in the shed. So my guess is that her description of the relationship was probably not too far off.
So she lost her cushy government job and probably her pension. She is now labeled a sex offender, she got 90 days in lockup, and is on probation for ten years. The “victim” was able to manipulate an older woman to get sex for months and now can he blame his being a loser for the rest of his life on his successful pursuit. Something is a little out of tune in the way or society handles this type of situation.
There is a huge difference between teenage boys pursuing older woman and older men pursuing teenage girls. It is only to make some sort of cockeyed and stupid feminist point to not acknowledge this difference. It is just plain stupid.
i can’t believe she is only 54.
Epic guiltuh.
Nuke it from orbit, nuke it once again, and nuke it a third time just to be sure.
Like a used-car salesman? Not sure how that’s appealing. Did he offer her a test ride?
Unfortunately we need a time machine to ascertain guilt.
She’s barely a decade older than myself and looks old enough to be my grandma (and my grandmas would both be 108 this year).
Geez. I know that teenage boys can be eager about these things, but somehow I think there’s more to the story.
For example, did she contribute to this? Is her dating life in the slow Lane? Was she happy to find someone even an underage boy??
Just an observation some of these stories feature a female teacher who is attractive. And many of us scratch our heads and think, gee, she would have no trouble finding someone in her local bar or someone her own age.
I bet this woman was not active in the singles scene, if that played any role in her hooking up with the boy.
Ain’t no normal 17-year old boy that would hit that unless he was high on meth, and I don’t think even then. Something that fugly and he’s gonna be messed up for life.
On the other hand, they didn’t show HIS photo.
I wonder if teaching blind students is a hard as it sounds.
Imma guess he doesn’t look 50.
“guys will @@@@ anything at that age
Not all guys.Actually”
I doubt anyone was any hornier than I at 17 but NO! NO! AND HE’LL NO!
good to know there are still some standards out there!!!!
i’m in my sixties and she could be my grandma!!!
a VERY used car indeed.
Poor kid.
Wow. A sexual encounter that lasted for “several months.” Impressive.
