Politico Absurdly Hypes Supposed Resurgence of John Birch Society
NewsBusters ^ | July 16, 2017 | P.J. Gladnick

Remember the mighty Coffee Party which at one time had grown to a total of 200,000 members? Oh, you wonder where that laughably inflated figure comes from? Well, it was made up by Steve Tuttle of Newsweek (now with fewer readers than the real members of the Coffee Party). The purpose of that very obvious fake news was to hype a leftwing version of the Tea Party back in 2010 despite the fact that it numbered in the dozens at most.

Well, the latest fake news comes to us by way of Politico in which writer John Savage is hyping a supposed resurgence of, get this, the John Birch Society. He offers absolutely no statistics to back up his case. Of course, the real reason for his fact-free hyping of the John Birch Society is to promote the idea that its ideas are being adopted by the GOP in general and Trump supporters in particular. Right! As if anybody with any political sense even thinks about the early 60s era John Birch Society any more than they would think about the Whig Party.

Here is Savage's pitch as he absurdly tries, with an ulterior motive, to get the fake news Politico readers to believe that The John Birch Society Is Back.

Meanwhile Socialism has taken over the Democrat party and Politico somehow does not take notice.

“Meanwhile Socialism has taken over the Democrat party and Politico somehow does not take notice.”

They notice, and they approve.

I don’t know much about them but back during the 50s they were saying Fidel Castro was a Communist and everyone else including the government was saying the opposite.

They turned out to be right and everyone else was wrong.

The media is so stupid and thinks the conservative movement is monolithic, and includes the likes of faux-conservatives David Brooks, Billy Kristol, George Will, Bill O’Reilly, Glenn Beck, Peggy Noonan and other such nabobs of negativism.

What’s so bad about the John Birch Society? They have proven to be more accurate than the average college professor.

The Birchers got themselves in a pickle when they opposed the Civil Rights Movement in the 60’s, not because of rights per se, but because they claimed the movement was full of communists in leadership positions. To this day their main cause is the fight against the spread of communism and socialism

A long time ago, I was a reader of the New American. I never joined despite being contacted to attend a meeting. I have no problem with most of Birch’s stated positions (strict adherence to the Constitution), but there was something about the organization that did not sit well with me. Moreover, some ex-members of management have described leadership that seemed less than principled. Glad I did not join. I doubt they will see a resurgence.

Back in the 1970s they had a billboard off Hwy. 231 between Dothan and Ozark, Alabama. It said “impeach Earl Warren”.

I certainly agreed with it.

Years ago I heard of them as “The Society for the Preservation of Wooden Toilet Seats” - The Birch John Society.

I still like that today.

In an episode of "King of the Hill," Hank Hill said that we once had a female Chief Justice, "and her name was Earl Warren."

The lefties are still stuck in the sixties. If they are looking for their enemies, they should check out Reddit and 4chan, not a bunch of old geezers in Texas.

#5: "What’s so bad about the John Birch Society?"

Yeah, they say it like it's a bad thing. The Birchers were one of the few grassroots pillars against communism/socialism/leftism/deviants. They had an extensive publishing and "samizdat" operation a couple decades before the Internet existed. They were a vital part of the conservative movement during the Great Society years.

The JBS lost steam when the Soviets assassinated its leader, and never seemed to get its footing back.

#7: "they claimed the movement was full of communists in leadership positions."

They were correct. Martin King was a commie, or at least a pinko sympathizer. Why haven't the FBI files been released? He's been dead almost 50 years. Inquiring minds want to know!

I’ve been told that the head of the John Birch society praised some supposed white supremacist. But then I’ve heard the same thing about Trump voters, Trump, et al and can’t trust much of anything said in derision of those opposed to Communism, globalism, or the uniparty.
