Suddenly this doesn't seem so horrible (by today's standards) My parents had one and USED it:When my son was about three and a half, I had a newborn girl. I hated shopping with him, because he thought it was absolutely hysterical to hide in the clothing racks, prompting me to panic.
When you have more little ones than you have hands, it is not easy.

My kids were 18 months apart, and you bet I carried the baby and kept the older one on a leash when we traveled without their dad. Can you imagine chasing an active two-year-old through the airport and out to the taxi stand while lugging a thrashing 10-month-old athlete?
But it may not have been a good idea in the long run, as now, decades later, the kid on the leash has become a stark raving liberal. (No, not running thru the streets.)
