I guess you could call that a type of hydrostatic shock.

Being within a few hundred feet of a 500lb bomb blast, the shock wave impact definitely is felt all over, the noise bearable, but pressure impact on the inner ear like a hammer hit. A very close hit just feet away by a 2.75 rocket that only has 3-5 lbs of high explosive, the sound is earth shattering, ear bleeding loud. Don't know how the Arty guys could stand non stop damage for an entire tour.

Nearing 200 db, the “sound” can literally kill you. Liquefies organs. D-day saw some of our brave soldiers killed that way. Thank God for our heroes.
