The dynasty meme was very useful in defeating JEB! in the primary and then Clinton in the general. Especially effective was the use of the word “ordained” to raise the concern that these “Royal” families simply pass the the crown down through the family and voting is irrelevant.

But how much of this concern was justified? In retrospect, not much.

The Kennedy name certainly ensured Bobby a crack at the Democrat nomination and the Bush name certainly allowed W to enter the Republican fray. W wound up POTUS and Bobby may well have if not for the tragedy of his assassination.

Yet, although having powerful names clearly got Teddy, JEB! and Hillary “on the map”, it didn’t get them elected. In all three cases, it could be argued the name was actually a liability.

Even if there winds up being a second Trump presidency, there is another explanation, far more likely than this theoretical dynasty effect.

Simple name recognition. Name recognition is a huge advantage in politics, regardless of what caused it. An actor, an athlete, an astronaut, a war hero, a vice president and yes, a family member of a president, all enjoy the huge political advantage of name recognition.

But there is zero evidence of any true dynasty effect, where a family basically inherits the office of POTUS, and the voting is just a formality.

If anything, it’s the opposite; the American people find that idea repulsive, which is why the dynasty meme was used so effectively AGAINST Teddy, Jeb and Hillary.

Bottom line: if Trump Jr is able to follow in his dad’s footsteps, like W did, it will not be because of his name but in spite of it. The name recognition certainly helps gets you the job interview, but it doesn’t get you the job.

I have liberal friends and I have leftist friends, but I make a distinction between the two - wondering what you think.

The way I see it, a Leftist believes a bigger government is the solution to every problem, and is therefore the natural enemy of individual liberty, free enterprise, the Constitution and the Republic itself. A Leftist loves minding other people’s business and confiscating other people’s property for the “greater good”. Leftists believe they are wiser than and morally superior to other people (deplorables). A leftist is beyond salvation, can never be trusted and always must be treated as the enemy.

A Liberal (as I see it), is more naive than evil. A liberal is driven more by emotion than reason, and therefore can’t abide suffering. Often a liberal will become obsessed with anecdotal stories of suffering but fail to grasp the true macro-economic causes of suffering. The “law of unintended consequences” is lost on them. While they are well meaning, caring individuals, liberals can be easily manipulated by Leftists. It is possible for a liberal to reform - I know plenty of ex liberals who “grew up” and now see the big picture.

I see Ivanka as being a liberal rather than a Leftist. I could be wrong, but she just seems like a sucker for a feely touchy cause. And since Leftists ALSO use the same feely touchy causes to justify their government intrusion and redistributive tyranny, Ivanka, like all liberals can wind up looking just like a Leftist.

I don’t think Ivanka is a lost cause Leftist, I think she’s a bleeding heart liberal. They are mostly harmless, and often grow out of it.

One thing I abhor is how the left stole “liberalism” and perverted its meaning beyond all comprehension. They love to go running to the dictionary to extol the virtues of its definition, but in reality, their “values” are antithetical to it. One of those is “tolerance”, which in reality is the opposite to modern liberalism. Leftists tolerate what is only palatable to themselves at the present time, and that could change on a dime.

I try to avoid calling leftists today “liberals”, since they would have to move far, far to the right in order to come close to that meaning. Leftists are totalitarians, with an instinctive need to control anything and everything (since many do not believe in God, they believe they themselves should function as a God - a frightening concept, because by that reckoning, it justifies each and every little thing that they do, which is almost inevitably bad).

They believe only those that pursue similar goals and think in an identical way have any legitimacy to even exist, and because of their “moral” code deeming the “right” to be “evil”, they could murder them (us) en masse and see it as justified. Look how quickly the media has dropped and forgotten the Hodgkinson event of last month. It exposes and cuts too close to demonstrating that they don’t wish to “coexist” with us. It’s no wonder they are quick to defend the Mohammadans, whose own totalitarianism is very similar to non-Mohammadan leftists. The subjugation and extermination of non-believers. This is why this ideology’s roots all stem from the same place, and that is Satan himself.

I don’t have an instinctive need to similarly want to murder leftists. Indeed, I’d much rather place them in a given locale, isolated from those opposite their ideology, and let them be given a total and free hand to practice it. Of course, as with Mohammadanism, we already know what the outcome of such a society would be. Because you have countless people who believe they are God, know what is “right”, you will immediately see a complete breakdown as they fall into different leftist camps, each painting the other as evil and to be utterly destroyed, even if there is virtually nothing to distinguish their positions from our point of view (having been on a forum where there were devout Leninists, Stalinists, Maoists, Trotskyites, et al, it was like listening to a discussion on which model of machine gun is more efficient at killing). What’s left will be whittled down to a handful of people, and perhaps just two (like that episode of “Let That Be Your Last Battlefield” in Star Trek), each with a different color on one side of the face, and therefore must be destroyed because the color is on the wrong side. Death is the ultimate end result. We on the right know this to be true.

I got a bit away from the Ivanka question, though. If she ran for a lesser office and demonstrate her bonafides, we could see if she has “learned” and outgrown her left-leaning proclivities, that would be reassuring that she would follow in her father’s footsteps. If she were to be elected President only to undo everything her father did, that would truly be a fiasco. Much like the Bushes.
