The reference to Curiosity is a canard. This is all Opportunity.
I’ll confess that I was sure that this was a blatant hoax, just because it LOOKED like a blatant hoax, you know, but I thought, “where did they get the background” ? So, I found a lot of similar landscape in the early Opportunity sols, and then a reference to the heat shield circa sol 334, or so, and then BINGO! sol 348 ... the image is genuine.
Coulda knocked me over with a feather.
