My guess is that that first hour was (without a Captain) "nothing but "***holes and elbows" -- trying to save a ship with a big hole in the hull.
Not sure comms was a priority. I, for one, have been studying this since the news came out -- and I never thought of the comms in the birds...

In an emergency EVERYONE knows their jobs. These types of events are anticipated and trained for. Nobody says “where do they keep the pumps” or “what do I do?”
All the smears against our brave sailors on this forum are disgusting and unwarranted.
Communication is around number three, for example in the air, priorities are aviate, navigate, communicate. I suspect that sailors have a similar set of priorities.
