In the Russian language, Sasha is actually a nickname for someone named Alexander or Alexandra. Natasha is a nickname for someone named Natalia.

One of my many problems with the Russian language is all of their nicknames/diminutives many of which (like Alexander/Sasha) don’t resemble the given name. It makes reading Russian literature a lot more difficult.
