When I was a little kid in the '60s, my mom told me everyone used to call them "n***** toes" but the proper term was "Brazil nuts." (I've told my kids the same thing. It's history.)
Unlike my dad, I don't recall she ever verbalized anything racist in my presence.

I suppose it is fair to say that if a black person used that word around a white person and the white person complained it might have the same outcome. Might. At least at this particular facility which you know well.
