There were 27 world records set at the Rio Olympics last year from swimming to weightlifting, archery to cycling. These were as thrilling as they were expected. Citius, Altius, Fortius, is the Olympic model after all Latin for Faster, Higher, Stronger.
Now comes perhaps the most enduring world record of the Games: Just seven months after the torch was doused, the host country is already acknowledging the entire operation was a terrible, perhaps criminal idea. It has left them debt-ridden and without a clue what to do with already decaying facilities.

Good idea
I believe there should be two permanent sites for the Olympics: Athens, Greece for the Summer Games and somewhere in Switzerland for the Winter Games. If Athens gets the permanent host duties, it would actually hugely help their economy because you’ll see a lot of sporting event championships played in Greece in non-Olympic years.
LA should host the Summer Olympics every time. It already has the infrastructure and facilities.
Ummm... they began in 776 BC... did you expect them to be Christian celebrations?
With the existence of fifty some genders, it’s going to take a while to get through all the events.
Atlanta has a 20 year old stadium that is no longer being used for anything since the Braves moved, but I don’t think the IOC likes Atlanta.
I like that idea. Havana in the summer and somewhere north of Pyongyang for the winter.
As some have suggested, there should be two main permanent Olympic venues. These two locations would hold all the traditional games associated with the respective games. Greece is a good choice for the summer games and would host the track and field events, most swimming events and a couple of others. Then you could have some sports be rotated around the world to different cities exclusively.
Basketball could be hosted by a city in the US one year and next time be hosted by a city in Australia. At the same time you could even have multiple events in one city like powerlifting, table tennis and wrestling in Beijing then London could host wrestling and soccer the next time.
That way the Olympics could start to be a world event again, with events all over the world and not just a showcase for one city.
They spent $12 billion.
Remember when obama and Valerie Jarrett tried to get the Olympics in Chicago?
Valerie Jarrett controlled much of the land the Olympics would be using. She did not own the land but controlled it. The money would have overflowed the Swiss banks from the corruption.
?? for winter?

Switzerland , Austria or an Alpine area of France or Italy..
Utah.
The ones being talked about began in 1896.
I visited Athens before they got the Olympics. As Euro cities go it was pretty dirty. Didn’t impress me. For me handing the IOC one of the Greek Islands for them to develop into a permanent site with all the needed facilities and room to expand would to me be ideal.
Was that kickback story ever solved?
