Don't you mean "lose"?

Well... when you assault someone you effectively have set your seat loose by an act of petulance. Now if he can make the case that the guy was trespassing, initiated contact or something then that's different. I hope that's the case but it doesn't sound good for him. Sure wish there was actual video.

Very clever attempt at a save.

I am familiar with "loose" as a transitive verb, as used here: Attic Greek [luw]. In English it's antiquated and means to "destroy", "undo". It doesn't quite fit here, when the modern meaning of "lose" (as in "not win") is the one intended.
