The US Army even named tanks after Lee and JEB Stuart. The Lee is what Bogart used in SAHARA.
The Sherman, on the other hand, was known as the Ronson Lighter. One hit and it would light up.

Actually I think that was a Grant tank in Sahara. The Russians had a memorable nickname for those.

You were right. He was in the Lee variant.
The difference being that the Grant variant of M-3 Medium tank had a more modern turret and slightly lower profile.
IIRC the Russians referred to the ones sent to them for use by the Red Army as "A coffin for five brothers"
