Read post 14. Muslim countries in the 1950s 1960s were modern. You can see it in pictures. Something changed - what? That is the question that needs to be answered.
RE: Something changed - what?
The Madrasas took over and started to tell the Muslims to take their faith seriously, that’s what.
The radicalism of a Muslim is directly proportional to how seriously he takes his faith.
This is purely from my own observations from memory, but the Muslims were angry at the US for their financial support of Israel (weapons made in the USA as aid) while our oil companies were paying approximately $3 per barrel for their oil. It wasn't too hard for the Muslims to feel like they were "victims". The Americans were the ones "victimizing" them.
SOME muslim countries were secularized in the 1950’s and 60’s. They embraced western values and dress and turned away from Islam. What you saw in SOME muslim countries was a falling away of Islam.
Saudi Arabia reacted by funding religious schools to bring them back to Islam.
The people who populate the Taliban, ISIS, Abu Sayyaf, Boko Haram and myriad other Islamic groups were educated in those madrassas, taught the true Islam.
Islam as an ideology must be eradicated because of the threat it openly states that it is to the rest of humanity.
We are willing to coexist, buy their “holy” text demands that they exterminate us.
