We are getting so much now out there; but I thought I read in one place where Rod Wheeler asserts the family originally did want him to investigate.
I believe the family did hire Wheeler. Then, when he began to tell the tale, the family was contacted, threatened, and backed off. Rush had a good report on this last week — Thursday, I think.
