I agree that doesn’t make sense and sounds perverted. If my child were killed, I would want to do everything I can to help catch the perp. Somebody commented that maybe the family had insurance on him or there is something else that might point to them as suspects.

They did want that; then they had their minds changed for them. I expect that the lives of themselves and any remaining children were threatened if they didn’t instruct P.I. Wheeler to back off.
Maybe something similar to what manipulated SCOTUS Roberts to change his intended vote on Obamacare.
