To: Controlling Legal Authority

The adoption laws here are insane as well. A member of my family had several miscarriages and looked into adoption. There were several stories in the news then about biological mothers taking children away from adoptive parents and she knew if she adopted it would rip her to pieces if that happened. Our laws favor the biological mother/parents which means adopting can be a mine field.

We need to change our laws to protect the children that are adopted; if one gives a child up for adoption that needs to be the end of the story. No going back after attachments are made because one changed their mind. Personal responsibility and all that.

Although laws vary accross the country in adoptions, typically once the birth parent signs and/or a judge makes a “final” ruling in the adoption the birth parents can’t come back and get the child.
When this does happen, typically there has been a finding of fraud. However, this is very, very rare.
