Well, to be fair, we don’t choose the age into which we are born. About 80% of the reason any individual is sexually moral has to do with the way things are when he or she comes of age. It’s the old what-came-first-the-chicken-or-the-egg question. In 1950, say, Shaker Heights, Ohio, there was an IMMEDIATE reward or punishment for a 15 year old girl for being sexually active. It’s not nearly as simple any more. Right and wrong are still right and wrong, but it would be inaccurate to claim people used to be “wiser” as teenagers than they are now. The support for moral behavior evaporated decades below. So, to laugh at thirtysomething women who grope in the darkness is as unfair as it is hardhearted. These same women would not be in these situations had they merely been born forty years earlier.

Great post. It is very difficult for men and women who seek to avoid this moral rip current.
