I served aboard the Bennington CVS-20 from 1968-1970. I went aboard the Yorktown CVS-10 in Long Beach Cal. I also toured the Enterprise at Pensacola Fla.

It's strange how attached you get to a ship after serving aboard it for so long.

In the early sixties, I collected money for the preservation of the USS Alabama and the USS Drum as museums.

Thanks for your service to tis Republic. The Essex class rebuilds were pretty phenomenal ships in their own right and were the backbone of the carrier force until the Forrestal Class, and then the Kitty Hawk Class and finally the Nimitz class came along.
