Stupid question. Reagan won the Cold War and completely transformed the psyche of the American people. Maybe if Trump keeps his promises, he could be a good president. He cannot surpass Reagan, however.
Kind of agree.
It isn't really a fair comparison, because so much has changed in the 30 years since RR left office. During this time it's been technology that has transformed the psyche of the American people. President Trump maneuvers in a world vastly different than the one we inhabited in the 80's. President Reagan had the skills needed when he was called upon to lead. He was our quintessential cold warrior, and led the successful effort that defeated Soviet communism. Domestically he lowered tax rates which resulted in long-lasting economic prosperity for our country. He wasn't perfect, but his presidency was overwhelmingly positive for America. He inspired so many Americans to be self-reliant, and he rightly demonized Big Government. He held close the values and ideals of American exceptionalism. We'll never see a man quite like him again.
I believe Donald Trump is on a path to greatness. He, like Reagan, is an intelligent, complex man. He brings a lot of other dimensions to his governing than RR did, which again is a result of the times we live in. For all of the pundit class who think they have him nailed down, they profoundly underestimate him. Trump understands nuance which, combined with his sense of purpose and his innate strength and intuition, means people regularly miss, or misunderstand, his intentions.
Trump knows how to deal with people, which Reagan also did and was frequently given credit for (and I'm not referring to smiles and handshakes). If there's any skill that is absolutely required to be an effective, successful, world-changing leader, it is that one.
