FULL TITLE: Delta staff 'tell California couple they could be jailed and lose their children if their son, two, doesn't give up his seat' as they are ejected from flight in row over overbooking

A California couple were told they'd be sent to jail if they did not give up their two-year-old son's seat on a Delta flight, they have claimed.

Brian and Brittany Schear allege they were also told their children would be taken from them, and have now demanded an apology.

It is the latest controversy around overbooked flights in the US.

Mr Schear claims a member of airline staff told him: 'You have to give up the seat or you're going to jail, your wife is going to jail and they'll take your kids from you.'

“I am wondering though what the gate staff would have done if the parents, before boarding, told Delta their ticketed oldest son would not be boarding, due to other plans, and what they - the parents, expected to do with his reserved seat.”

They did tell the gate staff. Gate staff said, “Fine.”

That would be a felony on Delta’s employees part.

I’ve driven across the country 5 times in the last 5 years with one or two friends in large part due to flying sucking now (we also have a lot of crap that isn’t amenable to being treated like a football)

It’s been cheaper and we get to see the country and meet folks. Screw flying government airlines...

Once again I believe it was the police that told him he could go to jail. Not Delta.
That said, the guy was trying to make up his own rules about buying seats and keeping them open. Passenger was totally in the wrong.

Suppose if I wanted could take the Super Chief to LA then maybe a Princess Cruise to Hawaii but anymore those things are just nasty as well. Cruise ships can be wonderful but they are a floating city with a crime rate that goes unreported because the travel industry does not want to lose money there too.

Why don’t you just stay home and hide under the bed?

Look if you like dealing with these mean airline people by all means be my guest. Far as I’m concerned there are other ways to travel where they treat you right.

Only reason the airlines do what they do is we let them get away with it. We keep buying their tickets and paying them to be buttheads.

You don’t like flying, you don’t like cruises because they are infested with crime, anything else you don’t like?

You don’t think someone can rob you on an Amtrak train as well?

I bet you’re real fun at parties there Debbie Downer.

Well, you could always get there with a brave Polynesian girl (and a crazy demigod) :0)

(BTW, excellent Disney movie if you haven't seen it).

as much as I should not argue with idiots..

It’s like this, some people when they dive off the cliff don’t check for rocks before hand. I, on the other hand check the water below for ever type of danger that may lay wait. If I feel it’s safe enough I dive, if not I find another cliff. After all that is not the only water hole on the freaking planet.
