Single, childless and nearing 40, I saw one real option
CNN ^ | 04/25/2017 | Sarah Lenti

Fast forward to my 38th birthday. I was still single, and the world of dating had changed significantly in the last eight years. Tinder and Bumble, the dominant dating apps, offered countless options for single men and women, but made the experience of dating entirely impersonal.

Dating amounted to small talk with a stranger, who you had briefly interfaced with online because you each thought the other attractive. The small talk was a prelude to hooking up, and there were no expectations even of a text the next day.

It was brutal. And after trying my hand at it, I was no closer to finding the love of my life or starting a family. If I needed statistics to back me up, I had them. In 2014, marriage was on the decline, as was the fertility rate in the United States.

I had one real option left -- and that was to attempt to get pregnant alone.

Nature didn’t intend for women to have babies at age 38.

Ridiculous statement. Most women back in the day had a ton of kids over 38. When you have 16+ kids you are going to be pretty old by the last one no matter what. Today woman are having kids at 50+. God is not a fool. He knows what he is doing. Don’t disrespect God.

Why didn’t she adopt?

I guess she didn’t have 40-70 thousand dollars lying around or more. Adoption is extremely expensive. I don’t know why it has to be but it is.

How about single women over 38?

Maybe if men learned how to be better in bed, we wouldn’t have the problems that so concern you.

The late, great Sam Kinison spoke of an effective technique for oral sex. His girlfriends and wives never spoke of what they desired, so he just used the alphabet.

It worked for me, usually by the time I got to "S". lolol

When sex required marriage, men married as early as they could. For men, that was when they were old enough to be able to support a wife.

I have no idea. As a man I think doing the same is repulsive. Maybe somebody else can tell us why women do this.

My guess is that they are hoping that TONIGHT's guy will call back for a second date.

Some women have high standards, and refuse to see that the kind of man who meets their entire checklist has lots of options. She sees him as Mr Right while he sees her as Ms Good Enough For Tonight.

Both men and women would be more likely to find happiness by following one simple rule: look for the one who wants YOU enough to make an effort to make you happy. Then grab that person and don't let go.

No I don’t speak for God — He has spoken in the Bible. Do you read it? Arguing with you is like arguing with some Left Snowflake.

Thanks for finally getting it. It’s not quite right, but it’s about the best I can hope for for someone at your level. Next timed read the Bible before discussing social issues.

By the way, since your tone clearly implies you’re not getting it, it’s been known for 2000 years that God requires more of men than women.

Just because you were a sorry husband that some woman left, doesn’t change a two thousand year old fact.

Because she’s probably a feminist liberal, gets offended at being called a girl by her boyfriend, goes to all the typical liberal abortion and women’s rights rallies, a vegetarian that eats beet salads with pinecone nuts, believes yoga is a legit religion and actually considers it exercise, owns a cat, cusses like its a second language, flips out at the word ‘conservative’, ....usual DC area dating scene. TENS of THOUSAND of these types in late 30s early 40s wondering how it went all wrong - why no good men love them.

get a clue nut jobs.

Sorry Boogieman for the above three posts by me — I wrote them while angry and I was being a stupid jerk. I didn’t mean it — I don’t mean to caricature your viewpoint.

Not only does fertility begin to decline at around age 28, but if a woman does not have her first baby by age 29 (and then breast feeds that baby), she’s at higher risk for breast cancer. Breast cancer used to be called “the nuns’ disease.” Nuns were at higher risk because they didn’t have children.

Let’s face it. Women were meant to have children and breast feed them, and they were meant to have them young. Young women should be told this. They see celebrities having babies in their 40s and they think they have all the time in the world. Nobody tells them those celebrities are using somebody else’s eggs.

Men are learning that a 40 year-old woman is often looking for a child first and a husband second. Nearly twenty years ago I read an article in Readers Digest written by a woman in this demographic who was horrified at how frankly her friends admitted they would deceive their boyfriends to get pregnant intentionally (against the boyfriends’ wishes). They rationalized it by saying they’d earned it by dating for so long, and they were OK with it if the guy took off afterwards.

I’ve been married a long time, so I couldn’t imagine dating in this environment; it is frightening what people have become.

Young women are picky about partners; 40 year-old women are desperate for a child instead - they can’t be picky anymore.

...

That’s not a dating app. That’s a superior alternative to prostitution services for men.

I agree with everything you said. Although the Sexual Revolution (still revolting) called itself "sex positive," it has actually resulting n a comprehensive rejection, line by line, of the normal female body and all its powers. And a rejection of the normal female heart, mind and soul as well.

I am so favored by fortune or fortune's Creator, that I benefited from splendid, dedicated mothering, and a father who by his love and labor made it all possible.

At least women in ages past were sensible enough to turn it into a frank commercial transaction. In today''s "dating" environment, they're expected to put it out endlessly, for nothing.

Having said that: O my brothers, O my sisters, we were not made for this.

The Hot/Crazy Matrix should somehow be combined with Travis McGee’s Civil War 2 Cube.

You know, just to see what happens.
