The Handmaid’s Tale Is a Riveting, Relevant, and Political Drama, So Why Won’t the Creators Say So?
Indie Wire ^ | April 22, 2017 | Chris O'Falt

Last night, Hulu’s adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. A frightening and incredibly gripping piece of visual storytelling from cinematographer-turned-director Reed Morano, it stands as a remarkable piece of art that speaks to atrocities committed against women around the world and throughout history.

While writer and executive producer Bruce Miller began developing the 33-year-old novel before the rise of Donald Trump, the story of women who have been stripped of all agency to exist solely as breeding vessels for the patriarchy seems all too prescient in a 2017 when immigrants are being separated from their children, facts are “alternative,” and women are losing access to healthcare at the hands of a president who’s admitted sexual assault on audiotape.

Oh, I don't know. The 1972 Munich attack on the Israeli athletes, and the two attacks in 1983 in Lebanon certainly made plenty of people aware of Islam. Not to mention the dramatic changes in Iran after the fall of the Shah and the rise of the Ayatollah. The hostages they took while Carter was in office. If Atwood wasn't aware of Islam by 1985, she was a moron.

But my point is only that Atwood's story could very easily be placed in the Islamic world, and it would be ... well ... pretty accurate. But instead she placed it in the Christian world, where it is wildly unlikely to happen.

I think it is you who refuses to admit that you misunderstood what I was saying from the beginning, and now you are getting insulting to the extreme to cover your embarrassment. But I have looked back over your other posts and I can see that this is how you speak to many people, so I’ll just accept that this is the kind of person you are.

By the way, you understand that Muslims think Muhammad is descended from Abraham and Hagar, right? That story is the seminal story for Muslims.

I "misunderstood" NOTHING!

You are SO wedded to your "point", that you are like a dog with a bone, that has no meat on it, not marrow, is filthy, broken, and worthless.

What you keep writing, has less than NOTHING to do with the book, its author, the movie, and now the T.V. series; not to mention the fact that EVERYONE knows that Muslims treat women in terrible ways.

You don't believe in GOD, you don't belong/follow any religion, you've never read the book nor seen the movie, and I doubt that you EVER even heard of Margaret Atwood, prior to this thread....yet, you have decided that YOU know more about EVERYTHING ( let me disabuse you of that "thought" !) and are therefor THE "expert" on this entire topic. LOL

And as far as being "embarrassed"; the ONLY one who should be EMBARRASSED is YOU!

Diddums, I knew THAT before you were out of diaper/were a twinkle in your father's eye.

That STILL has absolutely NOTHING to do with this topic!

I doubt that you know anything at all about Judaism and the different sects therein; nor even much of anything at all about different sects withing Christianity. If you did, you would know that within both of these religious groups, there ARE, today, sects which still DO make women and in some instances girls, wear special clothing, keep them in a subservient position, but don't use sex surrogate "slaves" and neither do Muslims!

Oh, you are quite wrong. Slavery is alive and well in the Muslim world. You aren’t nearly as well informed as you think you are, nor are you impressing anyone with your insults, and your all-caps, and your assumptions.

Look, I now realize that you have a very limited capacity of reading comprehension skills and I am unable to dumb down my responses and farther , so please get someone to read my posts and explain them to you.

Please look up the "surrogate" or have someone else do it FOR you and explain what a sex surrogate is and does.

You aren't informed about anything at all; you only imagine that you are. In fact, your passive aggression and projection complexes, need immediate attention! Please get some much needed help.

Also...obviously you DEMAND to have the last word,so have at it. As for me, I'll just always remember the laughter, at your expense, that you engender*.

* Pssssssssssssssst...that word has nothing at all to do with sex. *snicker*

I’m afraid I can’t re-read some of your posts, because they have been deleted by the moderator. They — and your current attitude — are unworthy of Free Republic.

Sarah Jessica Parker hired a surrogate, so that childbirth wouldn’t wreck her timeless beauty. I hated the novel—and find it hilarious that “Fifty Shades of Grey” would be popular at the same time this pathetic masochistic Atwood fantasy is being rehashed.

Sarah pressed Abraham to impregnate Hagar, through her own lack of faith in God’s promise to give her a baby in her old age. Atwood used only the bare outlines of the Genesis story. But, then Margaret Atwood is a HYSTERIC of colossal ignorance and small talent.

In today’s headlines, an Indian woman was sold into slavery in Saudi Arabia and is being forced into “marriage”— women in Islam are mutilated, murdered, forced into cruel servitude...but clever Maggie Atwood loves her some s/m porn using Christians...

Yes, I am well aware of the Bible story and know what is stated in the Bible about it.

Atwood is a somewhat talented author; however, her works are sometimes marred by her lefty views/stances.
