Roseville Police Chief James Berlin didnt take kindly to the name-calling and has no intention of tossing the ticket. You see the disparaging comments he made about my officer? the police chief told NBC. Drop dead.
People spend more time in the morning idling at the drive through at mcdonalds.....
Funny how they never hand out tickets there...
If the guy lives in Roseville, he should run for city council and then start working on getting the ordnance changed and the police chief fired. That’s the only way to deal with absurdity.
Amazingly, Detroit crime rates have dropped to the point that cops have time to worry about stupid stuff.
Support your local police. Any petty crime will do. Just make sure you’re white, and here legally.
Perhaps because the cars at the drive-through aren't being left unattended? The idling's not the problem; leaving the idling car unattended is.
The ticket was probably for leaving the car running, unlocked and unattended. I’m guessing the law was intended to reduce auto theft.
He left the car unattended, it is against the law. Thus the ticket.
Worked just up the road from Roseville.
If you started your car and walked away from it, your car was gone!!!
Auto theft in,Roseville was only exceeded by auto theft in Hazel Park.
The point is this particular law was put into place for a reason.
I had a car stolen in Pontiac that I was letting warm up during the winter. That was 25 years ago, in -20 degree weather.
And the cops who took the report didn’t even offer me a ride home. A cold lesson to be sure.
Seen many cop cars idleing while unattended-ambulances(at the ER drop off) and fire trucks too!!!!
Isn't that blaming the victim? If the car is in a person's own private driveway (or parking lot at an apartment building), OF COURSE he should have a reasonable expectation that the car won't be stolen. If it is stolen, catch and prosecute the criminal.

Yes but the ticket was for leaving a running car unattended.
Also at convenience stores.
Got that right. And get the cops ticketed for sitting around with idling cars. Did anyone explain WHY the cop was out writing these tickets and how many did he issue?
Time to bring in sensible city council members to strike the law. The guy in question should run.
The “zero tolerance” mentality and “zero tolerance” rules not only are destroying Liberty, they are destroying rational thinking and common sense.
In this case, had anything untoward happened to anyone passing the driveway, due to some unforeseen event involving the unattended car, the courts are certainly able to handle any “negligence” suit without such “laws” that in the vast majority of time merely punish the innocent for doing nothing other than a rule. A rule made why? Because someone wants to make a rule.
It is all about the revenue.
Its illegal in Boston too, but in their case its to "save the planet".
"It's against the law. Unnecessary idling is punishable by a citation and fines. Repeat violations can lead to up to $25,000 in fines."
There has been a similar ordinance in effect in Minneapolis for as long as I can remember. Opportunistic kids will grab a running car just to keep warm on the way to school. Happens all winter long.
