Infowars founder and host Alex Jones is “playing a character,” his lawyer argued during a recent custody hearing surrounding his three children.

“He is a performance artist,” Jones's attorney, Randall Wilhite, argued to a Texas judge, according to a report in the Austin American-Statesman.

He's admitted as much, referring to his schtick. What else is it when he says (with a deadpan) that he doesn't like to talk about himself?

This is not necessarily bad, or untruthful. When leggy newsgal is sitting next to serious newsguy, and is nodded her head at intervals in agreement at his serious news, in her head she is thinking about when her turn comes up, or perhaps if she remembered to feed the cat.

Peggy Noonan (for all her many flaws) put it well, regarding her time as President Reagan's speechwriter. Was he acting? Certainly. But he was always playing Ronald Reagan.

I’m convinced that Jones doesn’t believe the Newther and Truther nonsense. It’s just an exercise in “stirring up the marks for money”. I’m not even sure the people who fall for it are legit believers. It’s almost a Devil’s Advocate thing.
