You can never see a black hole ...

It doesn't matter. Most distant celestial images are faked with false colors to represent what scientists think the pictures should look like. Black holes would be represented in the same fashion. Even what we see with our own eyes is an illusion, and is only a representation presented to us by our brain interpolating the wavelengths that our eyes are able to collect. That's why telescopes scanning deep space collect wavelengths undetectable by our eyes, which is then altered to something that scientists think represents a true image.
