There is a player with the Padres currently who is a catcher, outfielder, and pitcher.
The best player in Japan, Shohei Otani, pitches in his team’s rotation and is an outfielder and first baseman the rest of the time. he’s one of the best pitchers and one of the best hitters.
He wants to come to MLB.

We’ll hopefully see eventually if the NPB two-way player translates to MLB, that would be awesome.
I think if they eventually go to all 2-3 inning pitchers to limit times through a line up we will see more desire for two-way players that will get paid for that skillset. They will need the extra pitching if it ever goes that route, I think you will burn up your staff over 162 games if some of the roster can’t pitch and also play a defensive position or hit.

I believe he will become an MLB superstar some day, and I hope to learn how to pronounce his name properly... http://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=otani-000sho
