My post was not intended to diss Fleury. He's playing well but his 5-1 record is a combination of playing well and having a swarming defense and hyper offense backing him up.

The Caps out played the Pens last night by every metric except how many hit the back of the net. My comment speaks to the fact that the Caps didn't make Fleury work as hard as they should have for the win. Wristers from 25' with no one providing a screen is nothing more than playing catch. Pens had 29 blocks to the Caps 8. Caps are sending in shots without a lane. Holtby is not playing well and it showed last night.

The announcers of these games make every save seem like something miraculous when most of them are simple kicks or glove saves. Fans are doing the same thing. Fleury had a good game but he got a lot of help from the opposition.

I’ve wondered some times if Fleury wasn’t a little too “busy” in the crease. When pressed, he can get a little too active, which gives me fits watching.

I’ve watched Holtby for years, since he started in Hershey, and he is as good a goalie as people say.

But a good goalie needs skaters in front of him that can score.

And I don’t know if the Caps have enough. Or as much as Pittsburgh. The Pens have 4 good lines. The Caps have 2.

It’s going to show in games 6 and 7. If it gets that far.
