I don’t know why the control surfaces were fabric. Does anyone know why? Most WWII planes were like that for some reason.

I have no idea why they were fabric - I’m sure vets will reply with the correct answers. My guesses would be to conserve on the metal and maybe less weight? They might have been easier and quicker to repair if damaged?
