He was concussed. Dragged off the plane unconscious, dumped on the ground and left alone by the goons. When he regains consciousness, the only thought he can manage is he SHOULD be on a plane flying out of Chicago. He goes back on the plane, collapses and it reaccommodated to the hospital.

You can have the “right” to do something and still be in the wrong.
In this case, according to UA’s own Contract of Carriage they can deny boarding. They boarded him. Having done that, he had the right to stay on the plane and they were wrong in removing him.
