The best sound quality versions are the 24-bit remasters....even better than the 16-bit CDRs I have that were burned from the original master tapes. Thankfully, noise reduction technology in the remasters was limited to less than 5% of the entire catalog.
I highly doubt if this 50th anniversary version was taken from the above remasters.
As an aside, I remember when Pepper was released, the mono version was $2.89 and the stereo version was $3.89.
