“This was a hit in Japan in 1961 and in the US in 1963.
Ue o Muite Aruk (I look up as I walk; aka Sukiyaki)—Sakamoto Kyu”
==
A classic - remember it from when I was a lad. Sakamoto Kyu died in the crash of JAL1233, the deadliest airplane crash in history. Such a beautiful song, even if you have no idea what the words mean.

Here's a one-hit wonder from late 1960--the story of a sailor who is addicted to his job. Interestingly, the singer is from Austria, which has no seacoast.

Seemann, deine Heimat ist das Meer (sailor, your home is the ocean)--Lolita

Ron Holden used to perform around LA in the 1980’s. I saw him a few times.

Kyu Sakamoto was killed in an airline crash. I think one of the worst ever.

Kayleigh - Marillion

If you're in the UK you would reject the "one-hit wonder" status, but it's their only single to make the US chart. There were a couple of others to make the US Mainstream Rock chart, but I can't say I ever heard any of them on the radio.

The worst. He had time to write a goodbye note to his wife as the plane was going down. So sad.

The original version, even if it wasn't a chart hit.

A Thousand Stars--The Rivileers (1954)

Two pretty major hits on that album. I liked them both, but what does a 6th grader know. (OK, I still like My Sharona.)

Thank you for the thread. It brings back so many memories.

I have a classic One-Hit-Wonder song. It's so awesome it made me follow the artist for years. Much to my dismay, as she never amounted to a damn thing afterwards.

Feel free to sing along.

Sinead

The vid is actually of Rick Derringer (of the McCoy’s) mid-70s remake of the original “Sloopy”.

Great song, but not a one hit wonder. Golden Earing had a bigger hit with Twilight Zone (When the Bullet Hits the Bone) that hit #1. Radar Love never made the top 10.

Those two were so far apart and they fell so far off the radar (pun not intended, but it works), that I've always though of them as the only group to be on-hit wonders twice.

Love is Blue (Instrumental from 1968)

Another instrumental one-hit wonder--and one of the best tunes of the year. It was also riding the charts in early 1968.

Ame Câline (Soul Coaxing)--Raymond Lefèvre
