Mike Huckabee: A conservative plea for the National Endowment for the Arts
Washington Post ^ | March 22, 2017 | Mike Huckabee

Posted on 03/24/2017 6:41:25 AM PDT by C19fan

Donald Trump wasn’t my first choice for president. I was. But he was my second choice, and I’m proud that I supported him. In tackling the federal budget, he faces a debt that has doubled to $20 trillion in the past eight years. No doubt a chainsaw seems more appropriate to the task at hand than a carving knife, but I would urge my president and friend to hold back from one tiny area of the budget whose elimination would cost far more than it would save.

If we can’t eliminate a nonsense program like the NEA then we are doomed.

It’s kinda funny. Way back in the 70’s I was cognizant of the credit based economy and used to say that the US was like the proverbial farmer with his arm caught in a piece o machinery, slowly dragging him in. And the only way to keep from being drug all the way in and being killed was to cut off the arm.

But nobody with enough power has the political will to cut off the arm. It’s been a slow process, but, truh be told, it has been constantly speeding up to where it is very close. This kind of asinine argument made by the Huckster is just a sample of what we will get every time a cut is suggested.

We ARE doomed. It’s been clear for decades. But what I missed way back then is that it is not the US that is at risk. It is the entire civilized world. And we’re among those in the best shape.

The house was built on sand, and the fall of it will be great.

At least 2/3 of the article simply reads: “for the children”. LOL!

Mr. Huckabee, among others that whine about cutting funds for useless programs just because it is such a “small” amount relative to the debt, must not understand grade school math which shows 10 dimes add up to 1 dollar.

From the article....

.....I have zero interest in spending a dime of tax money to prop up those who hate the president and the tens of millions who elected him.

I do care greatly about the real recipients of endowment funds: the kids in poverty for whom NEA programs may be their only chance to learn to play an instrument, test-drive their God-given creativity and develop a passion for those things that civilize and humanize us all. They’re the reason we should stop and recognize that this line item accounting for just 0.004 percent of the federal budget is not what’s breaking the bank.

Participation in the arts leads to higher grade-point averages and SAT scores, as well as improvements in math skills and spatial reasoning........

They use their "art" for the sole purpose of telling us how much they hate us and despise our values. As far a I care, they can all go bugger off … wait a minute … my bad! They enjoy buggery. You might say they've turned buggery into an "art form".

NOT ONE RED CENT!

Christian Socialist Huckabee shows his stripes yet again. Keep the spending spigot open but just try to channel it to more wholesome, conservative projects. I wouldn't care if the NEA only funded Norman Rockwell-type paintings or John Philip Sousa music, there is no place for government money in the arts.

Isn’t the NEA the entity which funds “artwork”, such as “Piss Christ”, and the Virgin Mary covered in fecal matter????

Tell me again how this “artwork” needs to be subsidized by the rest of us????

If somebody wants to stick a crucifix in urine, do it on your own time, on your own dime.. Sheesh.... ...

There is no reason that these programs can not be financed privately. If the Hollywood elitists want to make a difference the can contribute to “The Arts” rather then some of the silly causes they lend their names to.

Actually it would be great for them to have their names on all the programs

I like art.

I've no particular problem if a local government... LOCAL mind you... beholden to its constituents chooses to spend funds toward endeavors of artistic pursuit.

But the federal government - answerable to practically no one - as a "sponsor" of the arts?

Hell no.

For me, art is like history; you can’t make it up. It comes from the past. Creations that stand the test of time are art. Art is described, not prescribed.

If the National Endowment for the Arts will be preserving 200 year old works, then fine, let’s pay for it. If it is promoting junk art specifically because it is not liked, then shut them down.

These RINOs are like drug addicts who are addicted to big government.

Give them one snort of Washington, and the are incurable.

Mike Huckabee is not a conservative. Never has been. Never will be.

There were many on this site who believed his BS.

Huck’s wrong on this... which is odd because he’s usually right on this kind of stuff. Allow us our dignity Huck - we’re tired of the elites picking our pockets. Even if this is mostly symbolic it pulls chains off our necks.

Uh, no.

The NEA would be happy to fund a painting of a whore in Nun’s habit urinating on a cross. A historic portrait of our Founding Fathers by a renowned portrait artist? Not so much.

Kick them to the curb. Let the libs fund their own propaganda.

If art is good it will find its patrons. No need to shovel tax dollars at this.
