I agree with your premise that Comey is wording his remarks very carefully, so as to cover up something that he definitely knows, but is not explicitly “0bama wiretapped Trump”.

Think it through....Comey and the FBI were in deep trouble with Obama and Hillary during the election. Dems were calling for Obama to fire him.
If Obama or the dems were going to wiretap Trump it would not be this agency doing it and everyone in these hearings know it. This is Kabuki theater, misdirection trying to get Americans not believe Trump.
The way I heard it was that Comey states there was no surveillance THAT WENT THROUGH THE PROPER, LEGAL CHANNELS. So, if the current POTUS is able to find some proof (and with the power of the position he now holds that isn’t at all improbable) where does that leave us???
He is a bought man not a honorable one.
Who really thinks that a corrupt thug like Obama would go through legal channels to spy on someone he considered an enemy like Trump, and that government records of such spying would be maintained?!.......

What double standard?
Comey is a lawyer and knows how to answer the question that is asked truthfully. He also knows what his job is.
Not one of the Comey-haters has an iota of proof that he is corrupt or anything else. I trust that Trump and Sessions who have access to a great deal of information that is not publicly known are playing their hand correctly, including Director Comey’s role in these matters.
This hearing was destined to be a nothingburger, just like they all are. What counts much more is the investigative work that is ongoing and what may eventually happen before a grand jury, and no on commenting on this thread has any clue as to what that is.
