"Beauty and the Beast" is now estimated to break the all-time opening weekend record for a PG-rated film set last year by "Finding Dory" as it is now estimated to make $170 million in its opening weekend from 4,210 after grossing $63 million on its opening Saturday.

A month ago, Disney was estimating $120 to $150 million for opening weekend and it has far exceeded that number. In fact, Disney is estimating $170 million, but the industry is estimating $174 million. We will know tomorrow what the final number is. It is the 6th biggest opening of all time and will likely end up as one of the top 10 movies of all time, so I'm sure Disney is hoping for more boycotts.
It is never a good idea to announce boycotting a movie. Look at Passion of Christ.
For the record, this site also has the boycott:
And it’s got well over 100,000 signatories.
I have never heard Exxon announce earnings of $20 billion based on 1950 dollars; however, our earnings are $19 billion based on 1960 dollars.
Beauty and the Beast made $170 million this weekend. Actually, the industry thinks Disney is low balling and the rest of the industry thinks it will be $174 million when the final numbers are in. That does not include foreign box office, either.
Regardless of its rating, Beauty and the Beast, will have one of the top 10 box office openings in the history of the movies and will probably be in the top 10 movies of all time, both domestic and foreign.
Oh wait, McDonalds just announced their earnings based on 1947 dollars. McDonalds does not report how many Big Macs they sold because no one cares and it does not matter. It is how much revenue that is generated.
I honestly don’t get it. Who wants to see another Beauty and the Beast movie? I don’t. Throw in a scoop of gay romance and I’m really not interested. Apparently lots of people are though. Oh, well. Count me out.
Look, I am not rushing out to see it, but this pretend/fake belief a boycott is having an effect is ridiculous. I saw other posts on other threads from people who have seen it and they say they did not even notice and that there was no kiss. However, I have read there is a kiss, which goes to show you that it happens so fast, some people don’t even notice. I’m not saying this is a good thing, but the culture at large doesn’t know and doesn’t care.
With no boycott, Disney would have made less.
Question. . .When did these misguided parents know (before or after) about the the “gay scene”. Maybe they didn’t even notice. My pastor offered a statement about The Shack and Beauty and the Beast this morning in church.
It’s called the goats and the sheep are separating themselves right before our very eyes. If I were a parent I certainly would want to know what families were rushing to see the movie. . . if they can’t discern about this then what else are they permitting their children to do/see/say which ultimately could have an impact on other children.
The oyster’s a confusing suitor
It’s masc., and fem., and even neuter.
But whether husband, pal or wife
It leads a painless sort of life.
I’d like to be an oyster, say,
In August, June, July or May.

I have been arguing on FB about this movie. They stuck in 2 minutes of mild gay, and I do not like it but probably would not have noticed.
Why I will not see this film is that Disney proudly announced it. Not one dime from me.
A little homosexuality in a kids movie is like a tiny little bit of raw sewage in your drinking water.
More likely that gay orgs are buying up tickets in response to the boycott.
“Beauty and the Beast” is a centuries old story/fairy tale that is beloved by many.
The 1991 Disney animated version was and still is EXTREMELY popular with children and adults alike.
There is also a literary fan base who will want to see the movie. It’s much like followers of the Romeo and Juliet or the Pygmalion/My Fair Lady motifs. They will see any new iteration of the same story. They are fans.
While I’m not happy about Disney/Hollywood’s obsession with mainstreaming homosexual behavior and perverting part of the story story that they well know will have a large children’s audience, I will eventually see this movie (not in a theater) because I’m a fan of the story.
The character of LaFou is the one portrayed as having same sex likeings. He gives Gaston some longing looks and an embarrassing hug. Later, toward the end, he is seen at a ball, and, I suppose he could be interpreted as being flirtatious.
IMHO, I think all of it will go over the heads of younger children. HOWEVER, my opinion is that it doesn't belong there because it doesn't do anything to promote or extend the story line. Why is it there? It is there to promote a political/sexual activist agenda. Not too overtly; but, it really doesn't belong there at all.
It’s what I expected. I find that women in general like homosexuals and even if they think they’re Christians will think nothing about taking a child to see a movie like this. Their conservative husbands for their part think their wives hair color is more important than what they teach their children.
LibertarianLiz, thank you very much for the review.
There is no boycott.
As a very wise FReeper once stated, "There's only one reason adults want to teach children about homosexuality."
Other than those who were never planning on seeing the movie in the first place.
