Much more exciting than the release of Donalds Trump 2005 tax return was the release of Johnny Depps accounts by his business managers a few months ago. Now, there were some fun details, like the fact that Depp spent more than $3 million to blast the ashes of the late writer Hunter S. Thompson out of a specially made cannon. The accounts also mentioned that Depp spent $30,000 a month on wine, a cost that some found even more extravagant than the cannon, causing the Wall Street Journal to ponder, Is $30,000 A Month Too Much To Spend On Wine?
The answer, for the average American who may or may not have health care in the foreseeable future, appears to be pretty simple: Yes. But surprisingly, the WSJ article leads us to believe, Maybe not? Writer Lettie Teague swept her immediate circle of wine dealers, aficionados, and sommeliers, and found that some of these oenophiles could easily spend five figures on a single bottle. Teague states, Was Jack Sparrows wine budget really so big after all? Some wine collectors I talked to didnt seem to think so.
Granted, some of these experts included Brad Goldstein, a spokesman for billionaire Bill Koch, who sniffed at Depps comparably paltry sum:
Bill Koch sold a case of 1945 Mouton Rothschild at auction last year for $400,000, he said. If Mr. Depps agents were trying to show excess, theyre in the wrong place.

He's Jack Sparrow, just staying in character. It's a business expense and fully deductible.
We don’t drink, but I ordered a glass of wine with dinner at Sabatino’s a few years ago. It was good, but I couldn’t finish it. Half a glass was enough.
“...order a lot of wine in restaurants with huge markups”...
Do the standard tipping rates apply for an expensive bottle of wine in a restaurant?
I understand tipping is to improve service. I can’t see tipping $20 for bringing a $100 bottle to the table.
But like they say, if you can’t afford to tip, don’t eat out.
Gerard Depardieu drinks 15 bottles of wine a day. No idea what variety/co$t. I have no problem with that. However, he also heard DEPENDS (when flying). Not because he has to but because he wants to. I have no problem with that either. As long as I am not seated next to him on and international flight.
shoenice is still alive....
Until he can get into spending $100 million for a painting he is still small time.
At least with the painting he’d have something to look at for a long time.
Should read WEARS Depends....
dollar store wine
I’ve had expensive wine... There is a HUGE difference
One of my favorites is Blue Nun Liebfraumilch
Wine tours are awesome, aren’t they?
They really know how to mix the wine with food and snacks and cheese to make sure you appreciate the delicacies of your samples.
I stopped at Chateau St. Michelle in Washington State once- wonderful stuff
What’s more porous than Sponge Bob? Johnny’s liver!
Please enlighten me as to the difference.
i’ve only had really expensive wine a couple of times-
I had some $450 a bottle wine at a dinner party, and until then I really did not care much about wines.
But this was so delicious, I immediately thought “wow! that’s what all the fuss is about” and changed my attitude about good and bad wines.
If you have the chance, try some. You can usually get it by the glass at more expensive places. Ask a local winery too.
It’s an enjoyment in life I never thought I would care about. But it’s fun and interesting now.
I have had some very nice wines. Some from very small wineries that had lower price tags. To me a good wine is one that doesn’t taste like vinegar and many do.
**** I immediately thought wow! thats what all the fuss is about ****
I’m not a wine drinker, but did some work at a winery as a favor for a friend that knew them. Small little place but expensive wine. We stayed there and she made meals, etc. Both evening dinners were pretty much a party with lots of wine consumed.
The husband took us downstairs with the vats and barrels and would dip his pipet (big straw) in the various ones. It was pretty amazing to actually taste the variations and get them sort of right (woody vs. fruity, etc.) On the $18 bottles my wife usually gets I’ll have a sip of her red or a sip of her white. That’s about the only difference I can usually taste!
I’m still not sure why my wife has to buy those pricy $18 bottles when there’s four-buck Chuck!?
He sounds very well hydrated.. Or pickled.
