There seems to be a thread a day (if not more) on FR that advocate more restrictions on Free Speech.

I would have liked to see FR look for ways to expand Free Speech rights rather than restrict them. These are the Crazy Years.

It’s called THE LAW....

You cannot publicly expose someone’s tax records without their consent. It is illegal and a felony.

That has NOTHING to do with free speech.

This is NOT a matter of restricting free speech. It is a matter of law and privacy. If someone gave your local paper a copy of your tax return and they published it without your permission even though that is against the law, would you be ok with that?

She needs to be prosecuted and put in jail!

please explain how obtaining personal, legally protected information about someone and publishing it is a “free speech” issue.

The protections on the tax returns are pursuant to a sliver of the 4th amendment. Because government compels disclosure, the information is protected to ensure privacy.

If this is a “free speech” issue, then the 1st amendment must allow for abrogation of the 4th.
