Stay Safe Freepers !!
And you guys are just on the edge of it at the moment.
Not too bad west of there.
I grew up in Lyons, just north of Geneva. I went to school at RIT. Can you tell me the village you live in? I’m just curious.
(Now I’m a Kansas family man! LOL)
One inch of water can be the same as 20" of dry powder and I would imagine close to 15" of "regular" snow. A foot of ice might be the same weight as 14 or 15 feet of snow.
The land between Endicott and Johnson City, IIRC. I lived in the Binghamton area for 13 years, most of it on Lincoln Ave in Endicott.
YET. Bwahahha.
We are in a weird little spot - we either get missed or we get hit hard. One or the other.
We aren’t having any wind to speak of - good! The snow is steady and brisk, but not quite heavy.
You lived in the Presidential Section!
Well, we’re to the west of Broome Co. Only had about 3” by 6 am thus morning. Scanner was busy, though. It was weird, I’ve heard less scanner traffic on snowier days. Snow still falling, though not at the apocalyptic levels predicted.
We are going to Maine to celebrate our anniversary this year. Getting a little cabin on a coastal estuary with a small dock. One year we tried to see every lighthouse from the SW tip to Bar Harbor — and probably came pretty close to getting them all.
You getting sleety snow? Ours is mostly fluffy - but not the dry fluffy, seems to be a bit icy. Roads get bad fast with this stuff of course. Snowplows are coming through now, and he has, very carefully, pushed up a four+ foot high deposit of snow on the corner of our yard. We have ornamental bushes there - but they tend to do OK even if ABUSED by the plowmen.
We’re getting the confectionery sugar stuff, light and powdery. So far, a typical regular snow day. If it ends up that way, fine by me since it won’t be busting local budgets.
Ours is lightweight, thank goodness, but has a bit of icy also. As soon as I shovel the thin coating left behind is very slippery.
Stuck a yardstick in the front yard - 13 inches.
There is 1/4 inch on my den floor right now. LOL
Where are you thinking of going? We usually vacation in Tenant’s Harbor but everything was booked...in January (very unusual). So we’re in Spruce Head Island this year which is very close to Tenant’s Harbor.
Thank you FRiend!
I used to dred the shoveling, but I bought a snowblower a couple years ago and now it’s actually kind of enjoyable. Plus I live in a cul de sac and some of the neighbors are older so it’s nice to be able to help them out by keeping their driveway is clean and always making sure the snow plow doesn’t cover up the fire hydrant (which they always, always do).
I totally understand what you say about the snow drifts taking shape and the beauty of the whiteness. We are getting those “little flakes” of snow, and that means it will pile up pretty good. More snow later in the week too! I’m feeling a little guilty seeing all the birds in the trees and realizing I forgot to fill the feeders!
We are going to be on the Kennebec near Georgetown back a little ways SW of you. Someday I am going to find a good place to stay right at Boothbay but I haven’t found it yet.
I’m always looking at Zillow for a house.
We were going to stay a second week somewhere else along the coast but it looks like we are going to be entertaining adult children and grandkids enough this summer to have to cut back the time.
We were just visited by a pair of young entrepreneurs who dug us out after the plow went through. They did a fantastic job!
Also the “plume” section, unfortunately.
You know, IBM sold their homestead to Endicott Interconnect Technologies just before the Volatile Organic Checmical (VOC) plume was discovered. We used to call the new owners “EndIT”
Yes, the PLUME. Don’t hear much news about that anymore. I think IBM weaseled right on out of that pretty well. I think I head something about EIT being out of business now, but I can’t recall.
