and they weren’t gang bangers.

Enough were that the Irish gang stereotype had validity (Northside Mob in Chicago, Southside Boston etc.) In the same way the most Italians were law abiding, but the Mafia was and is real.

In any event, Irish immigrants were deeply despised for lowering wages in the mid 19th Century. The Nativist movement of the time was very powerful and styled themselves as Patriots.

Different time, different story.

Whatever the earlier Irish, Italian and Polish immigrants did regarding handouts and gang activity, we can argue this on and on.

But if we did, we would be forgetting the most important attribute (besides being illegal) of those earlier immigrants compared with today’s Hispanic immigrants.

Whoops, I posted before telling you what it is.
