I think there was at least “more” middle ground when they were in the closet. Going “in your face” with this sort of disgusting and immoral behavior can be hazardous to one’s health.

Again, not that I in any way support this, but I’ve learned to avoid angry mobs. Mobs tend to not think very clearly. Antagonize them at your peril.

Good observation.

It’s possible that the nanny society (rightists can go nanny too) tried too hard to breach the closet compromise (also implicit in the Old Testament paradigm where fornication crimes required 2 witnesses in order to be punished). That led to a bad court precedent that outlawed all regulations on such conduct. The law in its robotic quest for equality deemed the whole bloomin’ USA to be tantamount to the closet.

Anyhow now we have a moral issue on our hands that only God can contain.

I completely agree with you. The closet can be a quiet, comforting place sometimes.
