Sounds like a great experience. I went to the Hall in its early days and was underwhelmed.
Actually the Cleveland trip in 07 was a nice little vacation. We drove there on a Sunday morning, caught the last game of an Indians series against the Twins, spent the night, went to the HOF on Monday, and then went to the first game of a series with the Tigers that night, and swung by the Air Force Museum in Dayton on our way home the next day.
